How can a teacher deal with a student who reports illegal drug use by a parent in the home?

A caring responsible teacher would recommend the student see the school guidance counselor. Then report the accusation to the principal who will then take the proper steps to ensure the childs well being. How can a teacher deal with a student who reports illegal drug use by a parent in the home?
teachers are mandated reporters. If this did come up, he/she would know what to do.How can a teacher deal with a student who reports illegal drug use by a parent in the home?
I think your response merits consideration on what the situation is.

I'm thinking about a time when a parent came to conferences, and when he took off his hat to shake my hand, a joint rolled out. The parent was a professional jazz musician, the kid (high school) was well-adjusted, articulate, and thriving. I looked the other way. But I've also had a student, who was homeless, because of her mother's crack addiction. Her mother was prostituting herself in front of her daughter. I called CPS. Daughter turned 18 in the meantime, and social services stopped helping. She was advised to go to a homeless shelter. She ended up living with my family, was able to graduate high school and move on. There's no easy solutions.
This is for a social worker to deal with or the police. Although I am not a huge advocate of social services, they do have a job to do IF there is a valid and confirmed concern.

It was my understanding that teacher's were required to report this to the proper authorities (or through the school counselor, principal etc.) If the teacher doesn't report this to the proper authorities to investigate, they are endangering the child.
Report it to the principal and he/she should report it to Social Services. Document as much as you can to cover your butt.
Any disclosure of drug use (by anyone in the home) is a mandatory report to CPS.

Beyond that, you can do what you can to support that student.
